Make the Basket Blocks:
all seams are
1/4". Repeat all the steps, below, for the
second basket block. Or you can make both blocks
at the same time.
1. Chain sew the C triangle,
right sides together, to the H triangle, to make
eight half-square triangles. Cut the half-square
triangles apart. Cut off the "dog ears." Press
toward the strawberry print. Set aside.

2. Sew the G
triangle, right sides together, to the E
triangle. Cut off the "dog ears." Press toward
the red print. Set aside.

3. Sew the F
triangle, right sides together, to the ends of
the A rectangle. Make sure that they are
positioned as in the figure above. (They need to
be sewn onto opposite ends. Press toward the
yellow.) Set aside.

4. Sew two sets
of the C/H squares together, as shown below.
Repeat, to make four sets. Press toward the dark
print. See below:

Be sure the
half-square triangles are sewn exactly as shown
above.
5. Sew the yellow square to the end of one of
the pieces in step 4. Repeat, to make two sets.
Press toward the yellow.

6. Sew the
remaining H/C squares, right sides together, to
the right side of the E triangle. Repeat, to
make two sets. Press toward the center of the
block

7. Sew the strip
in step 5 across the top of the above block.
Repeat, to make two sets. Press toward the
center of the block.

8. Sew the F/A
pieces to the outside edges of the block.
Repeat, to make two sets. Press toward the F/A
piece.

9. Sew the yellow
D triangle piece to the corner of the above
block. Repeat, to make two sets. Press toward
the yellow.

Make the
Four-Patch Blocks:
1. Sew the 5"
red squares, right sides together, to the 5"
chick squares. Make four sets. Press toward the
red.
2. Sew two of the above pieces together, right
sides together, as seen below. Repeat to make
two four-patch blocks.

3. Sew the two
four-patch blocks to the two basket blocks as
seen in the project photo. Press toward the
four-patch.
4. Straighten the edges up, leaving a 1/4" seam
allowance.
Add the
Borders:
1. Sew two of
the 1-3/4" x 22" strips, right sides together,
to opposite sides of the wallhanging. Press
toward the border. Cut the extra off of the
strips.
2. Sew the remaining two border strips to the
top and bottom of the wallhanging. Press toward
the borders.
3. Give the wallhanging a final pressing.
Quilt the
Wallhanging:
1. Cut a piece
of batting 2" larger than the wallhanging.
2. Cut a backing piece the same size as the
batting, from the red chick's print.
3. Layer the pieces: backing (face down),
batting, spray the batting with the temporary
spray adhesive, wallhanging (face up).
4. Pin the edges to secure.
5. With a walking foot, stitch in the seam lines
to secure the blocks. Sew around the edge of the
block.
6. Lower the feed dog on the sewing machine.
With a darning foot and the invisible thread,
free motion quilt the wallhanging. I used a
meandering loopy pattern.
7. Trim the edges straight for preparation for
the binding.
Add the
Binding:
1. Cut a
2-1/4" wide piece of bias binding from the red
chick's fabric, long enough to go around all
four sides of the wallhanging, plus 10 inches.
You will need to sew the pieces together.
2. Follow the binding illustration, below, for
sewing on a binding.
Sewing the
bias binding together:

Sewing the
binding onto the quilt:

3. Turn the
folded edge of the binding to the back of the
wallhanging, and pin in place. Machine or hand
sew to the back. Use the invisible thread if you
are using the machine, so that the thread
doesn't show on the front of the wallhanging.
Paint the
Quilt Compression Rack:
1. Take the
Compression Rack apart. Set the screws aside.
2. With the tomato spice acrylic paint and the
flat brush, paint the Compression Rack. Let dry.
Paint a second coat.
3. Paint the matte varnish over the paint. Let
dry.
4. Hang the wallhanging from the Quilt
Compression Rack.
