This block is a 60 degree diamond. There are no set in seams to make the block, but there are set in seams to make the quilt top. I've found the easiest way to match diagonal seams to press the seams open, then insert a pin through the very middle of the seam, matching it on both pieces before sewing the seam.
All the blocks in the suggested quilt layout are the same, you just turn them to form stars. Mark the 1/4" intersections on the diamond blocks, and it will be easy to sew them together. If you want setting diamonds for the edges, make a pattern from one of your finished blocks.
